2009年先后被评为安康学院2008年度科技工作先进个人、陕西省第五届普通高等学校教学名师。现为全国汉语方言学会会员、陕西省语言学学会常务理事、陕西师范大学西北方言与民俗研究中心研究员、陕西省语言学学会陕南语言文化研究部主任。相继担任《古代汉语》、《现代汉语》、《语言学纲要》、《中文专业论文写作》、《人文社会科学研究方法论》等课程的教学工作，长期致力于高校教育教学改革研究。
主要从事陕南方言语音、语法、词汇和陕南历史地理、陕南民俗研究。近年相继主持和参加了安康学院、陕西省教育厅、教育部、国家社科等多项科研项目和教研项目，先后在《方言》、《语文研究》、《陕西教育》（高教版）等重要刊物发表论文24篇。其方言研究以大量的语言事实和历史资料，第一次向学界提出陕南存在江淮官话的观点，从而使陕南方言研究进入了一个新的领域，在我国方言学界产生了较大影响。在他的主持和带领下，在我校逐渐形成了一支为我国学界所瞩目的一批由中青年教师所组成的陕南方言研究学术团队，开创了陕南方言研究的新局面。由中华书局出版的《平利方言调查研究》（2009.4），从方言比较入手，结合人口、历史、地理等因素，从共时、历时两个平面探讨陕南平利方言的现实关系和历史关系，全面系统地阐述了陕南江淮官话的形成、语言特征以及方言间的融合等论题，揭示了这个处于江淮、西南、中原三个官话地区之交的方言错综复杂的语言特征，为单点方言研究提供了新的范本，在我国方言学界获得较高评价。
