说起滚石唱片,可谓说来话长。相信每一位八九十年代听中文流行音乐的朋友对“滚石”都有着难以割舍的情节。20年间,滚石唱片代表的不仅仅是台湾本土最大的唱片公司,它更记录着整个华语歌坛的流金岁月,记录着一代人的光荣与梦想……
1980年,校园民歌运动的积极参与者段钟潭、段钟沂兄弟创办了《滚石》杂志,由于不满足在版面上单纯介绍西洋音乐,萌发了要制作华人自己的流行音乐的想法。就因为这个简单的初衷,创办了滚石唱片,唱片交由世界五大唱片公司之一的BMG发行。滚石一开始的元老就有潘越云,张艾嘉以及之后的齐豫和罗大佑。极具才华和人格魅力的歌手,团结热情的紧密团队,原创加上人文的滚石风格,缔造了最初滚石至高的起点。罗大佑的《之乎者也》如一颗“流行乐史的原子弹”,在台岛刮起了一股黑色旋风,更坚定了滚石早期创业者继续探索华人流行音乐的决心。1985年,滚石从日本引进了镭射唱片技术,生产了首批5张CD。《回声》成为滚石第一张、同时也是台湾流行音乐史上的第一张CD唱片。1988年,滚石成立了旗下的巨石音乐,拥有林隆璇,张信哲等歌手。同时李宗盛、小虫、陈升、赵传的新鲜血液源源不断。80年代末,滚石成立了友善的狗工作室,推出了赵传、黄韵玲、张洪量、黄品源等歌手。1989年,海外归来的罗大佑在香港成立了“音乐工厂”,集合了黄耀明、林夕、花比傲等音乐人制作了《东方之珠》等唱片,同时滚石获得了杜德伟、梅艳芳的国语唱片制作发行权。
从80年代中期开始,滚石几乎网罗了包括香港Beyond在内的港台流行乐坛的精英,制作人有罗大佑、陈升、李宗盛、小虫坐镇;女歌手方面成功制作了黄莺莺、陈淑桦、娃娃、辛晓琪、万芳等人的专辑;男歌手方面,赵传、周华健、张信哲、成龙、马兆骏等人成绩颇丰。1989年,张培仁和制作人贾敏恕成立魔岩文化,集合内地的摇滚新势力在90年代初期相继推出了黑豹、唐朝、《中国火1》、张楚、何勇等人的专辑,取得空前的社会影响力,滚石的音乐内涵及领域进一步拓展。此时的滚石已达到了鼎盛的颠峰期。
90年代中期,张国荣重返歌坛签约滚石,林忆莲、杜德伟加上原来的精兵强将,滚石唱片的阵容无比强大。1996年,魔岩唱片在台湾正式注册成立,之后推出了杨乃文、顺子、李雨寰、陈绮贞和张震岳。作为滚石香港品牌的“龙卷风”也成功发行了莫文蔚、Beyond等人的国语专辑。 苏慧伦、刘若英、徐怀钰等年轻歌手的诞生则暗示着滚石后来的偶像路线。
2000年,随着经济萧条市场恶化,滚石将旗下的各家制作公司整合,“龙卷风”画上句点,同年底,魔岩唱片的创始人张培仁离开魔岩。2001年,“魔岩”也画上了句号。其后滚石在北京成立了战国音乐,在上海也设立了发行部,转向内地发展。时代变迁,滚石的中流砥柱纷纷淡出或离去。目前滚石唱片留有周华健、任贤齐、梁静茹、辛晓琪、五月天等原班人马,另外则以F4的偶像剧形式捧红了许绍洋、李威等人。但如今的滚石已与当年不可同日而语,“滚石”自身的品牌内涵无以后继,最重要的是滚石曾经傲视群雄的强大创作力已荡然无存,与一般的唱片公司并无二样。二十年春秋如一梦,滚石如一位拖着疲惫身躯的没落贵族,积聚着希望,等待着重生……
